Altek A14 Leo – Specs Review: 14 megapixels, 3.2 inches Android Camera Smartphone

The Altek A14 Leo by Altek has been already out in the market for quite some time and it is still one of  the hot buys from online gadget stores, especially Fastcardtech. Well, it has a really impressive camera of 14 megapixels, which you cannot see normally on an Android smartphone. Let’s take a closer look on its specs and find out if this gadget is still a worthy buy.

Altek A14 Leo, the camera King of Android

The main selling point of the Altek A14 Leo is obviously its camera. It sports a 14-megapixels camera, packed with an Altek Sunny 9 image processor. Here we have something from Altek’s technology, we’ll show you how this image processor performs on the latter part of this review.

I have never seen any smartphone yet that has the same or more than the 14MP camera like the Altek A14 Leo, except for the Nokia PureView 808’s 42MP cam of course. Other Android smartphones just have it at that 12MP mark. While this one has 14MP, it makes it the title of being the camera king of all the Android phones.

the Altek A14 Leo looks elegant on its design.

Yes, its a smartphone and a digital camera device at one body. Perfect for those photography enthusiasts that only wants simplicity of point-and-click cameras.

This camera/smartphone sports a Samsung S3C6410 CPU processor that is clocked at just 800 MHz. That is high enough to have an averagely seamless usage of the camera smartphone.

its a digicam, its a smartphone, no its Altek A14 Leo

However, it just runs Android 2.1, which is quite an older Android Operating System. I just hope that Altek might have a plan on releasing an update to this OS version in the future. Still, it is pretty much okay as it doesnt matter with the phone because of its main feat; the 14MP cam.

The Altek A14 Leo has 256MB of ROM and RAM, which is based on my experience with Android handsets; is quite okay. You do not need much RAM as you wont be buying this phone to just play HD games with it around. The storage memory capacity is still expandable with a micro SD card of 32GB supported maximum capacity.

This has a 3.2 inch capacitive multi-touch screen, with a WVGA resolution of 480×800 pixels. That alone makes an edge compared to some digital camera’s or even DSLR’s in terms of display screen. Take note, its capacitive.

Altek A14 Leo, bold.

Since this one is really a smartphone, it has GSM/3G support. However, unlike the other China phones, it only has single SIM capability. Still its pretty nifty as you can always upload your photo’s on the fly with that connectivity. There is WiFi connectivity support as well.

Giving more spotlight to the Altek A14 Leo snapper, here’s more of the information worth noting:

  • 14.0 megapixel back camera, with Auto Focus and Xenon Flash
  • Sensor type: CCD
  • Focus: 6.5-19.5mm
  • Aperture: f3.1-f5.6
  • Digital zoom: 5x, Optical zoom: 3x
  • Supports recording of video 720P (1280×720, 30 frames/sec) with sound

Take note that it is Xenon Flash, not your ordinary LED flash. Thus, I can say that with these snapper specs, you can possibly get the best pictures that a smartphone can shoot. Its as well a guarantee of clear shots even at low light conditions, and of course; vivid and crisp images on day light photo shoots.

If you are on the hunt for a better digital camera, then get this one. The smartphone capability seems just like to be a decent add-on on a digicam. We have a digital camera before, but it only has 6.1MP camera capacity. If I can still remember, it was bought on the price near on what this Altek A14 Leo is currently priced at. Treat this gadget as a better camera you could own if you cannot really afford to get a DSLR. How good is it to be able to send and receive MMS, do phone calls, surf the internet, view multimedia files, use it as a music player and a lot more you can do to an Android device that which you can also do on a digicam?
